Shan says "This exhibition is a bit of a departure for me. I am still doing portraits, but I am becoming more interested in stage design and props, and I have approached these as if they are murals."
Shan's large portraits always tell a story, which she hints at in statements accompanying each piece. Of 'The Diner', first on the right, she writes "A most familiar scene in any road movie or tear jerker, a lonesome lady sits at a diner. Is she wanted by police, waiting for her man, or just plain heartbreak hotel?"
